CITRIS Invention Lab

The Invention Lab offers a variety of prototyping equipment ranging from basic craft tools to electronics workbenches, CAD stations and professional digital fabrication machines. Common prototyping materials and supplies are available for purchase in the lab. Lab staff provides additional guidance and support for design and equipment use. Together, these assets have already helped students turn ideas such as cloud-based car diagnostic devices, smart hydration tracking cups and phone-controlled irrigation systems into functional prototypes. Remote fabrication options are available here.

Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation

JPS was created to support research, academic, and co-curricular projects with technical fabrication support, virtual design support from our Design Specialists, and pick-up arrangement. JPS offers a variety of fabrication methods, including laser cutting, 3D printing, and most of our other rapid prototyping processes. This is offered campus-wide, with project facilitation prioritized by user tiers. JPS is free to use with the exception of material costs. There is also need-based financial aid available to students using the service.

JSSP is our remote 3D printing service, offered to all current Berkeley staff, faculty, and students. This service is exclusively for 3D printing on our Ultimaker 3D printer fleet and allows users to manage their model library, slice models for printing, and remotely submit print jobs. JSSP is a free service, including access and materials.
