T. Geronimo Johnson receives advance praise for his new book "Hold it 'Til it Hurts"
T. Geronimo Johson, Ph.D. candidate in Education with a Designated Emphasis in New Media has received significant critical acclaim for his new book Hold it 'Til it Hurts (Coffee House Press, 2012).
The book, his first novel, explores the bond between two brothers in a contemporary landscape awash with questions of race, disaster and war. Achilles Conroy, just returned from active duty in “God-damnistan” is reeling from his adoptive father’s death. His adoptive mother is trying to give him and his brother, Troy, two envelopes that contain the information about their birth parents. Achilles refuses, but his Troy takes the envelope. The next day, Troy is gone. Thus begins Achilles' journey to New Orleans, part adventure, part mystery and fueled by the bonds of brotherhood and reflective of a trenchant American experience.
Hold it 'Til it Hurts has received advanced praise from the San Francisco Chronicle, Publishers Weekly and the Kirkus Review.
From the San Francisco Chronicle:
"Hold It 'Til It Hurts is a novel that defies categorization. It is at once a mystery, a meditation, a modern-day myth, an indictment of war and an ode to love."
