Alum Trevor Paglen Visiting Faculty at The New Normal

Artist, photographer, and BCNM alum Trevor Paglen has been named visiting faculty of The New Normal. Hosted by the Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design, in Moscow, Russia, The New Normal is an experimental post-graduate 5-month program that seeks to create for the future, as it continues to change rapidly with new developments in media and technology. Participants will be in residency in Moscow, as well as go on research trips within Russia and to China.

In its second year, The New Normal shifts its focus East, in four areas: AI at urban scale, continental rotations, alphavilles, and emergent economics. Paglen is among 17 featured visiting faculty and invited experts, and will likely share his experiences and wisdom regarding his work in image-making, sculpture, investigative journalism, writing, engineering, and numerous other disciplines.

Also featured within visiting faculty are past ATC speaker Casey Reas, Commons Conversation speaker Geoff Manaugh, and HTNM speaker Yuk Hui. The newly elevated Programme Director of the Strelka Institute, Benjamin Bratton, previously spoke for the HTNM series in November 2015, "On A.I. and Cities: Platform Design, Algorithmic Perception, and Urban Geopolitics" (video, Revisited article).

Applications for The New Normal 2017-18 closed on November 1st, but updates about the program will be available via its Facebook page.
