Authenticity in the Business of Entertainment

An Art, Technology, and Culture Colloquium lecture, presented as part of BCNM's Indigenous Technologies program
with Dana Ledoux Miller
Filmmaker and Co-Founder of Pasifika Entertainment Advancement Komiti (PEAK)
“Authenticity” is Hollywood’s favorite buzzword. A noun. A verb. An adjective. But rarely a green light. Despite the critical acclaim of the TV series “Reservation Dogs” and Apple’s recent, massive investment in "Chief of War" — Hollywood’s still not ready to fully embrace the rise of the Indigenous Storyteller. Ledoux Miller will discuss the complicated relationship between Authenticity and Business in entertainment — from the often unseen battles behind the camera to get things right to the public fallout when things go wrong and all the compromises in-between — from her perspective as a television writer, filmmaker and advocate for improved representation of Pasifika peoples across entertainment.
