Disembodied: Literature and Transmission in a Digital Age

Organized by graduate students in the Department of Comparative Literature, this conference explores the centrality of "text" in a period of media history defined by digital technologies. The conference will explore questions of specifically literary interest in the context of digital media. "Disembodied" promises to bring together students with backgrounds in such diverse disciplines as Anthropology, Architecture, Area Studies, Comparative Literature, and Theology for a day of presentations and panel discussions. The conference will also include a keynote address at 2:00 pm by Jeffrey Schnapp, Professor of Romance Languages & Literature at Harvard University and Co-founder of metaLAB.

Co-sponsored by the Berkeley Center for New Media
