Revisited: "Deep Dreams: Between Inspiration and Hallucination"

On November 28, Google engineer and artist Mike Tyka discussed with Gray Area founder Josette Melchor the creative possibilities afforded by neural networks and the impact the DeepDream project has had. In addition to an in-depth description of how deep dream originated and the work produced by artists through this tool, audiences were invited to think further on the copyright questions around machine learning art and the various potentials for alternative artistic practices.

Berkeley’s Art, Technology, and Culture Colloquium is an internationally recognized forum for presenting new ideas that challenge conventional wisdom about art, technology, and culture. This series, free of charge and open to the public, presents artists, writers, curators, and scholars who consider contemporary issues at the intersection of aesthetic expression, emerging technologies, and cultural history, from a critical perspective.
