Video now online! Commons Conversations - 'Book Forms as New Media' with Vincente Perez and Clarkisha Kent

Join Vincente Perez, PhD Candidate (and BCNM DE!) and author of Other Stories to Tell Ourselves, and Clarkisha Kent, author of Fat Off, Fat On: A Big Bitch Manifesto, for a conversation on the form of the poetry chapbook and the memoir. In this reading and discussion, the authors will explore how a book’s form affects the process of research, writing, and circulating their new works. These two books explore storytelling and truth telling as forms of political analysis that diagnose key structural issues in America like antiblackness, fatphobia, white supremacy, homophobia and more. Poet Nefertiti Asanti will moderate the talk. Vincente Perez is a poet, PhD Candidate in Performance Studies, DE in New Media, and the author of Other Stories to Tell Ourselves. Clarkisha Kent is a Nigerian American writer, culture critic, former columnist, and author of Fat Off, Fat On: A Big Bitch Manifesto. Nefertiti Asanti (@electricfl0wer) is a poet born and raised in the Bronx and recipient of fellowships and residencies from the Watering Hole, Lambda Literary, Anaphora Arts, Winter Tangerine, Museum of the African Diaspora, PEN America, and VONA. Nefertiti’s debut chapbook fist of wind won the inaugural Start a Riot! Chapbook Prize. They’re also a recipient of the 2023 SFF/Nomadic Press Literary Award. Her work can be found at Foglifter, Split Lip Magazine, Santa Fe Writer’s Project, and elsewhere.
