Conference Grant Reports: Haripriya Sathyanarayanan on Showcasing Research, Art, And Intersections To Encourage Member Collaboration

We are pleased to support our students sharing their work at the premiere conferences in their field. Haripriya Sathyanarayanan traveled to La Jolla to present at the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA) Conference.

I had the distinct honor of contributing to the keynote at the premier healthcare design research conference, the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA). Our keynote, "The Shared Interests Of EDRA And ANFA: Showcasing Research, Art, And Intersections To Encourage Member Collaboration," brought together a diverse group of accomplished researchers, including Lindsay McCunn, John Zeisel, Galen Cranz, Heidi Elnimr, Kathryn Finnigan, and Colin Polwarth, opening exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration between neuroscience and design.

The event was intellectually stimulating, and I had the chance to engage in invaluable networking and explore intersections between neuroscience and architecture. Sessions like "Lighting depends on the acoustics. Design guidelines for multimodal support of cognitive tasks in university classrooms" and "Measuring the Effect of Biophilic Classroom Design in a Virtual Environment Using EEG-Derived Neural Networks" strongly resonated with my research interests. I had the privilege of meeting and engaging with esteemed researchers and experts in the field, such as Upali Nanda and Deborah Wingler, whose work I have followed and admired.

Throughout the conference, enlightening sessions delved into the intricate relationship between neuroscience and architecture. Keynotes such as "Social and physical affordances: a cognitive and neurobiological perspective" provided unique insights into cutting-edge research at the intersection of neuroscience and design. This conference offered a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, underlining the significance of interdisciplinary dialogue in creating healthier environments.

The ANFA 20th Anniversary Conference not only exceeded my expectations but also reinforced the vital role of neuroscience in architectural design. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to BCNM for their generous support through the conference travel grant.
