Jaclyn Zhou and Caleb Murray-Bozeman to Lead New Media Working Group

We're thrilled to announce that Jaclyn Zhou and Caleb Murray-Bozeman are the new coordinators of the New Media Working Group!

The New Media Working Group is a gathering of graduate students from departments across campus who share an interest in the material, social, political, aesthetic, and philosophical implications of digital media. Anyone with an interest in new media is invited to attend. The working group provides an outlet for those doing work in the humanities, art practice, and STEM fields to share their perspectives and learn from the approaches of other disciplines, with a mix of student-led workshops, group excursions, events, guest speakers, and seminars on technical instruction or professionalization. Learn more about it here.

Jaclyn Zhou is a PhD candidate in the department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies and the Berkeley Center for New Media. Her research interests include fan studies, Asian and Asian American popular culture, digital technology, tourism, and race and empire. She is also a member of the Media Education Research Lab (MERL), a UC Berkeley-based lab developing methods for measuring and representing diversity in media.

Caleb Murray-Bozeman is a PhD candidate in the department of Film and Media and the Berkeley Center for New Media. His dissertation focuses on the rhetoric of participation across a variety of media. In addition to his research, he is also currently working on a documentary about maps and neighborhood transformation in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Our sincere gratitude to outgoing coordinators Pia Schneider and Gladys Rivas, who successfully stewarded the New Media Working Group over the past year, and our warm welcome to Jaclyn and Caleb as they step into their new roles.
