Welcoming Raphael Cohen to BCNM!

Please welcome Raphael Cohen, our new Events Coordinator and Office Manager, to BCNM!

Raphael Cohen is a writer, journalist, and events programmer committed to using arts, culture, and the study of media to inform and inspire. A former Fellow at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, he authored Rebel Elegant, a poetry book and solo performance paying tribute to 1990s NBA star Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, whose protest of the national anthem on the basis of U.S. racial and economic injustice predated Colin Kaepernick’s by two decades and led to his ouster from the league in the prime of his playing career. More recently, his profile of Yusef Wright, Stephen Curry's Oakland-based barber, for KALW’s Bounce podcast won the Public Media Journalists Association’s Best Sports Feature award. He recently served as Communications Manager for Justice Outside, an organization advancing racial equity in the outdoor and environmental movement. He’s also produced and curated multiple interdisciplinary arts events in the Bay Area, fusing literary, performance, film, and music mediums.

A one-time instructor with UC Berkeley's Early Academic Outreach Program, Raphael's thrilled to be returning to campus as BCNM's Events Coordinator and Office Manager.

Raphael’s regular hours will be Mondays through Thursdays. During event weeks, his schedule will follow event needs. You'll be able to find him on campus Mondays and Tuesdays!
