This Thursday - 24-hour Matching Gift Opportunity for AAPI Media Creatives Fellowship

Help us transform the representational landscape of American media.

The Berkeley Center for New Media seeks to open opportunities in creative careers in the entertainment industry to Cal AAPI students through a new AAPI Media Creatives Fellowship.

2021 was a harrowing year in anti-Asian violence, drawing attention to the ways that Asians and Asian Americans are often excluded from America's cultural imaginary. Historically, the lens of the entertainment industry has not reflected the diversity of perspectives and people of our global culture, especially with regards to Asians and Pacific Islanders.

How can we tell more authentic stories on screen that represent the perspectives of the AAPI community? How can we place leaders in the room where content is developed, written, produced, financed, acquired, sold, programmed, marketed, and distributed?

Through our AAPI Media Creatives Fellowship, BCNM aims to transform both how entertainment careers are viewed by AAPI students, and how AAPI are viewed within the entertainment industry. We will build a network of AAPI Cal alumni in leadership positions in media who, by developing narratives that feature AAPI and encouraging greater diversity at all levels within studios and agencies, will fundamentally change the ecosystem of cultural production to be more reflective of the AAPI community at large.

Will you join us and support AAPI media creatives today?

We are thrilled to share that Sam Kwok has generously agreed to match gifts to BCNM during Big Give in support of AAPI media creatives. When we reach 30 gifts to BCNM, we will unlock $5,000.

Click here (beginning at 9pm on March 9th through 9 pm on March 10th) to increase the impact of your gift and help us transform the representational landscape of American media.
