About the Berkeley Center for New Media

BCNM is an interdisciplinary research center that studies and shapes media transition and emergence from diverse perspectives. Through critical thinking and making, we cultivate technological justice in our classrooms, in our communities, and on the internet.

Position Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Communications and Events Assistant to join our dynamic team. You will be responsible for creating digital media marketing campaigns, developing engaging social media content about our community, and putting your skills in design to work. You will also be an integral part of our events team, assisting in all aspects of the preparation and execution of high-level, professional speaker series' and symposia. Your initiative and resourcefulness will make you adept at quick problem solving and polished interactions with the general public. Ideal candidates should be well organized, and fantastic writers and communicators.

Title: Communications and Events Assistant
Location: 426 Sutardja Dai Hall, UC Berkeley
Scope: 4-10 hours/week
Compensation: $16/hour

Responsibilities

  • Help strengthen the BCNM brand across web, print, events, and social media
  • Build and share a library of success stories from the BCNM community
  • Edit and post content including news and events on our website and social media
  • Assist with all aspects of event execution for programs such as the Art, Technology, and Culture Colloquium, the History and Theory of New Media Lecture Series, and various conferences.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a student at UC Berkeley
  • Interested in trends and best practices for communications and social media
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative suite a plus
