BCNM Students Finalists for Fast Company's Student World Changing Ideas

BCNM is beyond ecstatic to congratulate four of our brilliant students —Eleni Oikomaki (Urban Design, alumni), Rashad Timmons (African American Studies, masters), Bryan Truitt (Cognitive Science, undergraduate) and Lian Song (Data Science, undergraduate) — for being named finalists in Fast Company's World Changing Ideas Awards 2020.

They were commended for their exhibition, Collective Obscura, which serves to critique biometric data surveillance and how it is used to target, criminalize and dox people, especially vulnerable community members. Creating designs intended to achieve forms of camouflouge and obscurity, they embody resistance through textile craft against a mechanized and central surveillance state.

Collective Obscura was also presented at the Shenzhen Biennale late last year, the world's most-attended architecture exhibition.
