Alum Bonnie Ruberg at Legacies of Gaming and Technology
Bonnie Ruberg, BCNM alum and currently at UC Irvine, was one of five speakers for the "Gender and Gaming" panel on November 2. This panel was part of a larger digital humanities symposium, "My Mother Was a Computer: Legacies of Gender and Technology."
Hosted on the campus of William & Mary, the panel revolved around the growing interest in different types of games (e.g. traditional sports, board games, card games, video games) as well as increasing digital media offerings from academic departments.
Ruberg was in conversation with Adrienne Shaw, Leisa Meyer, Celia Pearce and Amanda Phillips.
"My Mother Was a Computer: Legacies of Gender and Technology" commemorated the 100th anniversary of coeducation, focusing on scholarly collectives studying feminism and technology. The Equality Lab, alongside the executive committee of the Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies program, set three major themes for the symposium: 1) gender and programming, 2) gender and gaming and 3) gender and online community.
