Alum Stuart Geiger Keynotes ACM's OpenSym

Stuart Geiger, alongside WMF principal research scientist Aaron Halfaker, presented the keynote speech at OpenSym on August 23. Titled "Qualitative and quantitive studies and Wikipedia," Geiger and Halfaker discussed mixed methods research and challenges with operationalizing trace data.

During the talk, they discuss their own papers, such as "The rise and decline of an open collaboration system: How Wikipedia’s reaction to popularity is causing its decline" and "Operationalizing Conflict and Cooperation between Automated Software Agents in Wikipedia: A Replication and Expansion of 'Even Good Bots Fight.'"

OpenSym 2018 took place from August 22 to 24 in Paris, France. OpenSym, also known as the International Symposium on Open Collaboration, is an annual conference series dedicated to open collaboration reseach and practice.
