BCNM & All Bay Collective in Curbed SF

The results of the "Resilient by Design Challenge," a collaborative research and design project that develops innovative solutions to the issues brought on by climate change in the Bay Area, was released earlier this month.

Curbed San Francisco featured seven of the solutions, including that of the All Bay Collective. The All Bay Collective — headed by the College of Environmental Design, Berkeley Center for New Media, and Terner Center for Housing Innovation — was one of ten teams selected to participate and design exciting, community-based solutions.

This group was issued a prompt to solve flooding at the Oakland Coliseum site, trying to mitigate the risk of groundwater flooding as a result of rising sea-levels.

The solution? According to the article:

“Through the construction of ponds, landforms, and expanded streams, the communities of Deep East Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro will not only be able to adapt to sea-level rise and groundwater flooding, but will also have a network of flourishing greenways to enjoy for generations to come.”
