BCNM to create Turing Test game for "On the Same Page" program

The Turing test is a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of an actual human. The test does not check the ability to give the correct answer; it checks how closely the answer resembles typical human answers.

Berkeley Center for New Media will be developing a social game around the Turing Test that will be available to all incoming freshman and transfers for Fall 2013. The game, like the test will seek to answer the question developed by Alan Turing, "Are there imaginable digital computers which would do well in the imitation game?"

The Turing Test game will play a part in the university's "On the Same Page" program. This program was created by the College of Letters and Science and has been expanded to include all new students and all faculty members at Cal.
