Urban Data Canvas Hackathon Video

We now have video online from the Urban Data Canvas Hackathon that took place earlier this year, facilitated by Casey Reas! It was a phenomenal success, with the winners able to have their work displayed on Market St., in San Francisco, and we were thrilled to be part of the event with swissnex San Francisco and Gray Area Art and Technology!

Participants were asked for new ways to show the flow of multiple data streams, and possible correlations between them; for graphics and other displays that could engage urban citizens in ongoing discussions about air, power, water, traffic, work, cost, and stress; for methods of making these displays speak to the "ground truth", and means of connecting the data back to the source from which it came. In particular, participants were asked to think how such displays might enter the sight lines of the people who are the most affected by the data. What they produced was beautiful, but more importantly, practical and oriented towards affected communities.
