New Media Research Roundtable: A Moving Image – Media and Metaphor in Stage Performance

This informal talk and screening looks at the role of metaphor through Bromberg's work as a choreographer and subsequently as a media designer for stage and installation performances. Ideas of space, immersion and interactivity will also be addressed. In addition she will discuss the Center for Interdisciplinary Arts and Technology and the Multi-Media performance Lab at the University of Utah.

Ellen Bromberg, a Guggenheim Fellow, is a choreographer, media artist, dance film curator and educator, and was the founding director of the University of Utah’s Center for Interdisciplinary Arts and Technology. Currently an Associate Professor of Modern Dance, Ms. Bromberg is the Director of the first Graduate Certificate in Screendance and has received numerous awards and grants for her work. Her choreography and her films have been broadcast nationally and screened at numerous international dance film festivals. She is the recipient of three Bay Area Isadora Duncan Dance Awards.

BCNM New Media Research Roundtables are supported, in part, by CITRIS. Ellen Bromberg's visit to UC Berkeley is supported by the Townsend Center for Humanities.
