Conference Grants: Rebecca Levitan at the Archaeological Institute of America

We are pleased to support our students sharing their work at the premiere conferences in their field. Rebecca presented her work "New Research on Roman and Late Antique Living Spaces" at the annual meeting of the Archaeological Institute of America. From Rebecca:

I delivered my paper on January 8th at the annual meeting of the Archaeological Institute of America. This meeting is the premier and most prestigious event for classical archaeologists in the United States and an important location for networking, both in attending papers and the secondary events. This is my last year participating as a student, so these networking opportunities are particularly important. I also attended a number of meetings at the conference and attended papers for all four days.

In my session "New Research on Roman and Late Antique Living Spaces," I discussed an ongoing research project stemming from my dissertation at the Roman villa of Herodes Atticus at Loukou, in the Arcadia region of Greece. Here I presented on some remarkable ancient sculptures, including sharing orthophotos, unpublished images of notable details, and my own interpretation of the artwork's meaning within the elaborate villa context. Other papers in my session showcased new documentation methodologies, which was helpful in getting up to speed with the most current archaeological approaches and best practices in their implementation.
