Jen Schradie & Team Win European Commission Grant

Alum Jen Schradie and an international team of collaborators won a European Commission Grant for $729000 to study online hate speech against Muslims.

The project, entitled Hatemeter, is a collaboration between the Universita Degli Studi Di Trento IT, Amnesty International Sezione Italiana Onlus IT, Association de Défense Des Droits De L'Homme - Collectif Contre L'Islamophobie en France FR, Fondazione Bruno Kessler IT, Stop Hate UK, Teesside University UK, Université Toulous 1 Capitole, FR.

Project Hatemeter aims at systematising, augmenting and sharing knowledge on Anti-Muslim hatred online, and at increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of NGO/CSOs in preventing and tackling Islamophobia at EU level, by developing and testing an ICT tool (i.e. Hatemeter platform) that automatically monitors and analyses Internet and social media data on the phenomenon, and produces computer-assisted responses and hints to support counter-narratives and awareness raising campaigns

As part of the project, they will not only build the platform and then pilot the Hatemeter, but then invest in training and dissemination.

Congratulations, Jen!
