BCNM at DHSI 2015
The Berkeley Center for New Media was well represented at the Digital Humanities Summer Institute 2015 in Victoria, Canada this year!
The DHSI is an intensive environment of workshops, seminars, and talks surrounding new computing technologies and their influence on teaching, research, creation, and preservation in a variety of humanities disciplines. Participants share their experiences with the digital humanities and gain expertise in advanced technologies to reach their research goals.
This year, recent grad Bonnie Ruberg (Comparative Literature) was a DHSI Colloquium speaker. She attended the "Feminist Digital Humanities: Theoretical, Social, and Material" workshop with fellow BCNM Ph.D. candidate Andrea Horbinski (History). Félix Treviño (Spanish) attended "Out-of-the-box Text Analysis for the Digital Humanities" and "Introduction to Electronic Literature in Digital Humanities: Research and Practice," where he was joined by by Ryan Ikeda (Rhetoric). Fellow Rhetorician Nick Gutierrez meanwhile used the opportunity to advance his technical programming through "Foundations Web Development/ Project Prototyping for Beginners with Ruby on Rails." Lyndsey Ogle (TDPS) built on her work in performance with "Conceptualising and Creating Digital Documentary Edition," while faculty member Alex Saum Pascual (Spanish and Portuguese) returned to DHSI for "Advanced Criticism and Authoring of Electronic Literature" and "Electronic Literature in the Digital Humanities: Research and Practice," where she was able to present projects inspired by her participation at DHSI 2014.
We look forward to our BCNM DHSI participants acting as ambassadors of digital humanities research in their broader fields!
