AI and Global Digital Infrastructure

We're excited to kick off our Commons Conversations series with a group presentation on "AI and Global Digital Infrastructure," featuring BCNM Executive Committee members Nicole Starosielski (UC Berkeley, Film & Media) and Danika Cooper (UC Berkeley, Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning) along with special guests.

Our guests include two groups:

1) Members of the Global Digital Infrastructure team: Iago Bojczuk (Cambridge) and Federica Tortorella (Instituto Europeo de Posgrado).

2) Victoria Mohr (UC Berkeley, Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning) and, from Chile, Martin Tironi and Manuela Garreton.

Tironi and Garreton's latest work, "Hybrid Ecologies," an interactive installation questioning the water usage of Generative AI systems, was presented at the Venice Architecture Biennale this year.

Martin Tironi's academic interests are related to walkability and sustainable mobility, digital technologies, Smart cities, design anthropology, and maintenance and reparation practices. He is the Director of Futures of Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR), Director of the Potificia Universidad Católica de Chile School of Design, and Associate Researcher at the Center for Sustainable Urban Development (CEDEUS).

Manuela Garreton's research addresses hydric crisis data visualization, public policy, urbanism, neuroscience, and subjective well-being. She is an Assistant Professor at Universidad Católica’s School of Design and Associated Researcher at Urban Complexity Lab, University of Applied Sciences, Potsdam. Her research addresses
