Conference Grant Reports: Eda Er at Frequency Series
We are pleased to support our students sharing their work at the premiere conferences in their field. Eda Er presented Would Coulda Shoulda at the Frequency Series in Chicago. From Eda:
This fall, I had the opportunity to showcase Woulda Coulda Shoulda at the Frequency Series in Chicago, alongside a following up talk on my research Storytelling as a Compositional Tool: Building Multidisciplinary Narratives in Music Composition and Performance. The performance was a vibrant platform for exploring contemporary and interdisciplinary music, featuring performances and discussions that highlighted the intersection of composition, visual media, and narrative. My piece delved into storytelling as a structuring element in music composition, illustrating how narrative-driven frameworks can shape multimedia and musical compositions. Engaging with fellow composers and artists sparked meaningful conversations, particularly around storytelling’s potential in complex, multimedia contexts.
A particularly pertinent session for my studies focused on interactive media in live performances, exploring the dynamic relationship between visual and sonic storytelling elements. The perspectives shared during this session provided new insights into fusing sound and visuals, reinforcing some of the principles in my work. The exchange of ideas at Frequency Series was invaluable, offering fresh approaches to integrating narrative and interdisciplinary methods that I am eager to bring back into my creative practice. I am grateful for the support BCNM provided for this opportunity!
