Lashon Daley Appointed Assistant Professor

We are thrilled to announce that Lashon Daley has been appointed as an Assistant Professor of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University!

Lashon, author of children's book Mr. Okra Sells Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, is a scholar, writer, dancer, and performer focused on bringing communities together through movement and storytelling. Her book project, Black Girl Lit: The Coming of (R)age Performances in Contemporary U.S. Black Girlhood Narratives, 1989-2019, explores how children's literature, film, television, and social media shapes our cultural understanding of what it means to be a young, Black female in the United States.

Lashon holds a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from the University of Miami, a MFA in Writin from Sarah Lawrence College, and a MA in Folklore from UC Berkeley. She also receieved her PhD in Performance Studies with a Designated Emphasis in New Media at UC Berkeley. Her performance repertoire includes being a dancer for Cherie Hill's SheVerse and a director and dramaturg of Berkeley Dance Project's Turntables. She has been the recipient of many awards including the Peter Lyman Graduate Fellowship in New Media and the Mark Goodson Prize for Distinguished Theatrical Talent.
