Commons Conversations Video Now Online: Ronak Kapadia

Listening to Ronak Kapadia speak on "Insurgent Aesthetics: Flight, Freedom, and Fantasy on the Frontiers of US Empire” was a great way to wrap up our last Commons Conversations lecture of 2019.

This discussion is based on his recent work, Insurgent Aesthetics: Security and the Queer Life of the Forever War. As an interdisciplinary cultural theorist of race, security, sensation and empire in contemporary United States, Kapadia analyzes American military tactics abroad.

In "Insurgent Aesthetics," he specifically uses a queer, feminist, anti-colonial and indigeneous lens to view the discourse on global control. He even drew connections on new military technologies from both US and Israel, and how space tehcnologies and cybersecurity play a prominent role in these spaces.
