Feminist Media Histories Interviews Alumna Bonnie Ruberg

Feminist Media Histories, which hosts dialogue on the influence of gender in media technologies across diverse historical and global contexts, invited BCNM alum Bonnie Ruberg to discuss Data and gender.

For this summer's issue, Ruberg contributed a piece titled "What Is Your Mother's Maiden Name? A Feminist History of Online Security Questions." In it, Ruberg examines the hegemonic assumptions of gender and sexuality in shaping an "authentic" selfhood online. Ruberg traces the evolution of the contrived security question that makes the "Sign Up" process just that much more obtrusive.

For the issue's accompanying podcast, Ruberg was interviewed by FMH editor, Shelley Stamp, which you can give a listen to on Soundcloud here.
