Jenni Higgs at Writing Research Across Borders IV in Colombia

BCNM DE student Jenni Higgs recently presented with her advisor Glynda Hull at the Writing Research Across Borders 2017 Conference in Bogotá, Colombia. WRAB 2017 was held at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá (Colombia) on February 15, 16, 17 and 18 of 2017, following the 2008 Writing Research Conference at the University of California Santa Barbara, the 2011 Conference at George Mason University in Washington DC, and the 2014 Conference at the University of Paris-Ouest Nanterre la Défense in France. The conference featured a Plenary Talk by Anne Marie Chartier, an associated researcher of LARHRA, the Laboratory of the National Scientific Research Center (CNRS by its French acronym), on "Learning to read and write in France and the United States (nineteenth-twentieth century): parallel teachings or interaction?"

Jenni Higgs and Glynda Hull presented on Thursday, February 16th on the "Teaching Writing in a Digital and Global Age: Toward Access, Learning, and Development for All" symposium alongside Sarah Warshauer Freedman
. Other topics featured in panels and workshops included: students' experiences and representations; writing assessment; historical approaches; Interculturality: L1, L2 and L3; Reading, Writing, and Democracy; Genres, functions, and uses of reading and writing; How does writing develop across the student's life; Teacher formation and classroom mediation through writing; Material design for teaching and learning writing processes; and Institutional Initiatives.
