Morgan Ames Wins the 2020 Sally Hacker Prize

Congratulations, Morgan Ames! Morgan was recently awarded the 2020 Sally Hacker Prize by the Society for the History of Technology. The Sally Hacker Prize was established in 1999 to honor exceptional scholarship that reaches beyond the academy toward a broad audience.

Morgan received the award for her book The Charisma Machine: The Life, Death and Legacy of One Laptop per Child (The MIT Press 2019), which draws on archival research and ethnographic fieldwork in Paraguay to explore the cultural history, results, and legacy of the OLPC project - and what it tells us about the many other technology projects that draw on similar utopian ideals.
