Jane McGonigal's SuperBetter in Clinical Trials

In 2012, BCNM alumni Jane McGonigal released SuperBetter, an app meant to support patients recovering from concussions and inspired by her own concussion recovery process. Now, the app is being tested in a clinical trial to support patients who are suffering concussions and transitioning from hospital care to home care.

The NIH-funded clinical trial is being conducted at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Cincinnati Children's Hospital on tramautic brain injury patients between 15 and 25 years old. So far, the investigators have seen that Jane's SuperBetter and other positive play games promote a positive difference in the patients' ability to successfully transition from therapeutic care to self care. By the end of the study, the goal is to have a more well-established plan regarding the use of positive play game apps like SuperBetter in clinical continuum of care.
