Farewelling Our Assistant Team

After years of working as BCNM's communications and event assistants, it is with the utmost gratitude that we would like to thank Nic Chang, Laura Huynh and Fionce Siow for their dedication and hard work to the program.

Nic, Laura, and Fionce have been with us for three years. Since joining BCNM, they have become the face of our public programs and have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep you up to date on all our happenings. They have been an absolute joy to work with and we were constantly impressed by their willingness to learn new skills to improve our messaging. They even created their own processes and handbooks to pass down all they've learned to the next generation of assistants. We could not have asked for a better team and we are going to miss them the privilege of having them as colleagues, but we cannot wait for what the future holds for them.

Below, Laura and Fionce have written their own farewell messages to the staff:

Laura Huynh

Where can I begin with the amount of gratitude and heart I have for the Berkeley Center for New Media team? I attribute a lot of my growth as a Berkeley undergraduate student to the spaces and the people that I was lucky enough to learn from. I have grown tremendously - personally, professionally, politically - through the events and the mxntors I received through working with BCNM.

To Lara, Laurie, and Sophia - thank you for including another “Laura” on your team. I’m going to find humor and comfort in that for a long time. You have all been so patient and so encouraging every step of the way. I admire you all so much for taking all of us assistants in and challenging us to be our very best!

To my fellow assistants - I can go on forever, but TLDR: Thank you for being such fine company and I cannot wait to see how far we will all go outside the realms of this campus.

Thank you again to the Berkeley Center for New Media for welcoming me. Can’t wait to live vicariously at the next events through the new live tweeters!

Fionce Siow

It’s been almost three years since I first joined BCNM, and those three years were filled with so much learning and growth. I am eternally grateful for all the opportunities this program has given me. Although I started my time with BCNM solely as a communications assistant, I was inspired by the tight-knit community to qualify for the new media certificate — and even received the Eugene Jarvis Scholarship for New Media Innovation as a result.

To Lara, Sophia and Laurie — your leadership and guidance were crucial to making BCNM a memorable and welcoming environment. To the assistants team — it’s been a pleasure working alongside you all, and I'll miss seeing everyone at our events.

I’m looking forward to seeing what else the program will get up to while I’m away! I’m sure BCNM will only achieve greater and grander heights.
