Rita Lucarelli Promoted to Associate Professor of Egyptology

Congratulations to Rita Lucarelli, who was recently granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Near Eastern Studies, as well as Associate Faculty Curator of the Ancient Egyptian Collection of the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology of UC Berkeley.

Rita received a BCNM faculty seed grant in 2018 for her work "From Papyrus to Coffins in 3D: The New Media of the Book of the Dead." Aimed primarily at building up a new platform for an in-depth study of the materiality of the Book of the Dead texts and images through the 3D visualizations of inscribed, anthropoid coffins produced in the First Millennium BCE, when magical texts and iconography were particularly en vogue on mortuary objects in Egypt, Rita's project is producing incredible results.
