Alum Stuart Geiger and Dan Scholler on Challenges of Data Research

Alum Stuart Geiger and Dan Sholler published a report on the "Challengess of Doing Data-Intensive Research in Teams and Groups" from their extensive conversations with stakeholders across campus, including Aaron Culich, Ciera Martinez, Fernando Hoces, Francois Lanusse, Kellie Ottoboni, Marla Stuart, Maryam Vareth, Sara Stoudt, and Stéfan van der Walt.

Geiger and Sholler gathered researchers to explore and discuss challenges in doing data research in teams in order to uncover possible solutions and outcomes. They discovered that researchers faced a "diversity of technologies, research agendas, disciplinary norms, team compositions, and governance structures, and other factors that characterize scientific research groups."

In the next part of their project, they will consider recommendations and turnover in team membership. Read a more detailed report of their findings here.
