Alum Trevor Paglen Contributing to For Freedoms Billboard Project

Founded by Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman, For Freedoms Federation encourages new forms of critical discourse through a mission of using art as a vehicle to build greater participation in American Democracy. The organization produces exhibitions, installations, public programs, and now, billboard campaigns to advocate for inclusive civic participation!

The 50 State Initiative runs from September through December 2018, during the lead-up to the midterm elections. A network of artists and institutional partners have produced nationwide public art installations, particularly in the form of billboards throughout the 50 states. The billboards model how arts institutions can become civic forums for action and discussion of values, place, and patriotism.
