Shannon Jackson at PARSE Conference 2017

Shannon Jackson, who serves as Cyrus and Michelle Hadidi Chair in the Humanities and Associate Vice Chancellor for the Arts and Design in addition to her BCNM involvement, spoke at the PARSE Conference 2017. She participated in the "Vocabularies of Exclusion" strand on Friday, November 17.

In its own words, the PARSE Conference "tackles very current questions of inequality, neocoloniality and legitimacy as they are expressed and produced through culture and cultures of artistic education." The conference theme this year was "Exclusion," and it was organized by the Platform for Artistic Research Sweden (PARSE), an international art and research publishing and conferencing initiative based at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Jackson's strand is as follows:

Vocabularies of Exclusion focuses on forms of exclusion produced through language as well as embodied and discursive practices. Reflecting on the terms and conditions of artistic and political work in cross-disciplinary contexts, it explores and interrogates languages of inclusion, separation, and participation as they are produced and enacted in the present moment in the field of cultural production and its context in wider socio-political arenas.

She is joined by University of Gothenburg organizer Kristina Hagström-Ståhl, of the Academy of Music and Drama, as well as actor and director Ellen Nyman, Anna Lundberg from Linköping University, Petra Fransson from Lund University, and more.
