WikiWomen's Edit-a-thon
Building on the momentum gained from WikiWomen's History Month, the Berkeley Center for New Media is hosting a WikiWomen's edit-a-thon to encourage more women to edit Wikipedia and improve Wikipedia’s coverage of women's history. Facilitated by former Wikipedian and Berkeley Center for New Media Susan B. Miller Fellow Sarah Stierch, this event will increase the online presence of women, and demonstrate how to create "edits that stick."
The event will open with a brief review of Wikipedia policies and procedures, before launching into editing. The event is free and open to the public, though advance registration is encouraged at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Berkeley/WWUCB
No wiki editing experience is necessary – support will be on hand. Female editors are specifically encouraged to attend, and for those that cannot make the event in person, there will be an opportunity to virtually drop-by.

The Berkeley Center for New Media is hosting Sarah Stierch as the Susan B. Miller Fellow. As part of Stierch's programming, she is hosting Wikipedia workshops and edit-a-thons. These events aim to educate the public, students, and especially women on the importance of contributing to Wikipedia. Females comprise approximately 10-20% of editors on the world's 5th biggest website (on any given day).
