Shannon Jackson in 809 | Artists as Activists

Shannon Jackson, Associate Vice Chancellor of Arts and Design at Berkeley hosted 809 | Artists as Activists, a discussion panel of Chicago-based artists who use their art to create social impact, alongside Lisa Yun Lee, Director of Art and Art History at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Jackson and Lee hosted a panel comprised of Silvia Gonzales, a teaching artist who has collaborated on numerous local artists collectives like Hyde Park Dacha; Michael Rakowitz, Professor of Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University, an acclaimed Chicago-based artist whose work has been showcased within the Museum of Modern Art in New York; and Laurie Jo Reynolds, Professor of Art at the University of Illinois, at Chicago, an artist and policy advocate who organized Tamms Year Ten, a legislative campaign to reform and close Tamms supermax prison.

This panel gathered November 7th in the historic Jane Addams Hull-House in Chicago, continuing Jane Addam's legacy of art and activism, thanks to the Chicago Humanities Festival.
