Ken Goldberg Comments on Atlas for Wired

Wired reached out to our very own preeminent roboticist Ken Goldberg to comment on the new design, 'Atlas,' of Boston Dynamics. In a video released demonstrating the new robot's capabilities, a Boston Dynamics researcher battered the robot, which was able to fall and stand back up even with significant system impulses like being hit with a stick.

“It definitely triggered the uncanny valley response,” Goldberg says in the article. “I mean, most of us probably had the same reaction when it got pushed around: We expected it to turn around and blast that guy with a laser beam.”

Atlas can walk across snowy terrain, pick up boxes, and open doors, though Boston Dynamics have not given many details about the new designs specs.
