Laura Devendorf's Color Changing Thread

BCNM's Laura Devendorf was featured this month in Gizmodo and Science Alert for her research project, Ebb. Ebb is focused on how to use thermochromic pigments in weaving and crocheted materials. Ebb uses electric impulses to change the color of the thread pigments, slowly changing the color of the textile. The process is still too slow for computing, but opens up new and exciting opportunities for clothing, textile, and furniture designers to create truly customizable garments and objects. For Ebb, Devendorf collaborated with Project Jacquard at Google, part of Google's wider investigation into the interactive potential of the textiles which drape our bodies and fill our homes.
