Moore is an internationally renowned gerontologist and designer, serving as a leading authority on consumer lifespan behaviors and requirements. For a period of three years (1979-1982), in an exceptional and daring experiment, Moore traveled throughout the United States and Canada disguised as women more than eighty years of age. With her body altered to stimulate the normal sensory changes associated with aging, she was able to respond to people, products, and environments as an elder.
Moore's influence can be felt throughout our daily life, as she has championed socially conscious designs with clients as diverse as AT&T, BOEING, Johnson & Johnson, Kaiser Permanente, Kraft General Foods, Marriott, NASA, OXO, 3M, Valley Metro Rail, and Walgreens, among others. Since 1990, Moore has designed more than 300 Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Environments for acute and sub-acute healthcare facilities throughout North America, Europe, and Japan.
Moore holds undergraduate degrees in Industrial & Environmental and Communication Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Advanced Studies in Biomechanics at New York University's Medical School & Rusk Institute; as well as graduate degrees in Psychology and Counseling & in Human Development from Columbia University.
She has been honored with numerous awards for her humane designs, and was selected in 1996 for the Community Service Award of the American Rehabilitation Association for advancing independence and quality of life with Environmental Design. In 2005 the American Occupational Therapists Association presented her with their Leadership Award, and in 2006 she received the American Society of Interior Designers Humanitarian Award. Moore is considered one of the leading Americans who have defined the new millenium through her commitment to inclusiveness through design.
