About Nick Negroponte
Nicholas Negroponte is a technology visionary, who has not only pioneered research in computer-aided design, but has also reimagined the impact of technology on society through his art and philanthropic initiatives. In 1970, Negroponte exhibited "Seek," created with the MIT Architecture Machine Group, to probe the relationship between machines and living organisms and interrogate how design can be made accessible. Negroponte has championed the democratizing potential for technology throughout his career, including as the founder of the controversial non-profit One Laptop per Child, which deployed $1 billion of laptops for primary education in the developing world.
As a co-founder of the MIT Media Lab, which he directed for its first 20 years, Negroponte created one of the first interdisciplinary spaces to investigate and create new technologies. In advocating for increased communications between specialized fields, Negroponte provided a blueprint for a new ecology of design-thinking that promotes innovation.
