Asian Horror Cinema and Beyond
UC Berkeley will host a symposium on October 7th and 8th (Friday and Saturday), featuring contemporary works of horror cinema that explore issues of memory, desire, and media in East Asian and Southeast Asian cinema.
Symposium lectures and discussions will offer alternative reading strategies and theoretical positions with which to assess the sprawling commercial, political and aesthetic ambitions of Asian horror cinema.
Events will take place at the David Brower Center in downtown Berkeley (2150 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA 94704). Symposium lectures, discussions and film screenings are free and open to the public. All films are subtitled in English.
Organizers: Miri Nakamura, Assistant Professor of Asian Languages and Literatures at Wesleyan University and Dan O'Neill, Associate Professor of Japanese at UC Berkeley.
