Break/ing Ground: Critical Dialogues in Sound and Motion
The Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies welcomes you to join Dr. Thomas DeFrantz and Dr. Fred Moten in a groundbreaking performance-symposium, engaging critical dialogues in sound and motion in the context of black performance tradition.
Dr. DeFrantz (Duke University, Dance and African-American Studies) is author of Dancing Revelations: Alvin Ailey's Embodiment of African American Culture. He is Founding Artistic Director of SLIPPAGE: Performance|Culture|Technology, a multi-disciplinary arts collective. He is also currently a professor in the Dance and African American Studies departments at Duke University.
Dr. Fred Moten (Duke University, English) is a renowned poet and scholar, and author of B Jenkins and In the Break: The Aesthetics of the Black Radical Tradition. He is also the Helen L. Bevington Professor of Modern Poetry at Duke University.
